Activity one: Philosophy Power Point

Objectives:
  • Students will be able to demonstrate, through an illustrated presentation, their educational philosophy and christian world view.
Resources:
  • Computers outside of class.
  • Computer lab for showing presentations in groups.
  • Microsoft Power Point - presentation software.
Process:
  • Students will create a power point presentation to demonstrate their educational philosophy.
  • They will then show them in groups of 3-5 depending on the size of the class.
  • Students will also e-mail the presentation to the instructor.
  • In the peer groups the students will assess each others presentations with the Philosophy Power Point Rubric.
  • The instructor will also use the same rubric for assessment.
  • A few of the presentations may be selected or volunteered to be shown in class.

Activity Two:  Philosophy Defense

Objectives:
  • Students will be able to present a valid defense for their philosophy.
  • Students will understand the importance of having a philosophy and Christian World view.
  • Students will be able to express reasons why is it vital for teachers to have an Educational Philosophy.
Resources:
  • Computers outside of class.
  • Microsoft Word - Word processing software.
Process:
  • Following all other activities.  Students will be given the scenario, that their administrator has challenged their philosophy and world view.
  • They must prepare a two page reflection paper that defends their philosophy, and world view.
  • They may use only 2 scriptures, and do not have to use any.
  • Their arguments must be logical and sensible.
  • The reflections will be used as discussion starters for in class.
  • The reflections will be read by the instructor and reviewed.  No formal grade will be given for this assignment.
