Overview
Introduction to Unit: This
unit is designed for students in 1st or 2nd grade. The students will need
to know basic computer skills. The students will be taught PowerPoint by
the teacher or media specialist. The students will work in pairs or sets
of four during the unit. I usually teach this unit in April or May. Some
selected activities may take several weeks. Seed growth will depend on
germination time.A variety of different plants are studied. The plant parts
and their functions are described. Students will investigate how seeds
are planted naturally. The students will plant seeds and observe growth.
The students will research a locale(e.g. the rainforest, ocean, artic,
or desert) and the plants found there.
The sequence in which the activities are presented is
only a suggestion and maybe changed to accomodate individual needs. I would
appreciate comments or suggestions from anyone utilizing this unit.
Essential Question: Do plants live everywhere?
Grade Level: 1st Grade
Time Frame: 2-4 weeks

Final Student Product:
Groups of students will prepare a PowerPoint presentation
about the plants found in the locale thay have chosen.
Materials Needed: Supplies
are listed for each activity. To complete the final assessment students
will need to have access to student computers, teacher computer for PowerPoint
presentation and projection type hardware.
