Make a Mental Map:
Time Frame: One class period
1. Put students into groups
2. Put up a list of cities that are home to major league baseball teams

3. Ask students what these cities have in common. (They all have professional
baseball teams)
4. On a sheet of plain paper, have students make a sketch map of the United
States and approximately
where each city is located
5. When the students have finished their sketch, put up a correct map of
the cities so groups can see
how close they were the the exact location of the cities. Link

Which group came closest to the correct location of the cities on your

Make Baseball Cards:
Time Frame: Three class
periods
1.Have students pick a favorite
baseball player
2.Using index cards, have them create a baseball card for their favorite
player
3.The card should include player statistics, graphics of the player, or
team logo,
city where the team is located, including longitude and latitude.
4. The index cards may also be substituted for cards made on the computer
5. Use one class period to research the player in the library or computer
lab
6. Use the information gathered on the first day to create the baseball
card
on the remaining days

and search on the web. This site also includes on-line quizzes for students
assessment.

2 . I would suggest showing the
Internet Search Tutorials on the television monitor. This
approach will allow a question and answer exchange on the first day.
3. On the second day, students may then take the quizzes for each section
of the tutorial
in a computer lab setting or from the monitor in the classroom. There is
