1. Divide the students into pairs, each pair at a computer.
2. Hand out Picture Vocabulary Sheets #1 and
#2.
3. Explain to the students that for half of the period they will
collaborate together about how to write a story using the pictures from the
vocabulary. Also allow them to use Vocabulary PowerPoint #1
and #2 to review
and study.
4. For the second half of the hour, the students must separate and type the
essay alone, using a computer word processor. The only guides they are to have
with them are Picture Vocabulary Sheet #1 and
Picture Vocabulary Sheet #2.
5. On the second day of this activity, the teacher should have prepared
copies of each student’s typed essay, only without the student’s names. In
place of the name will be a teacher assigned number.
6. Divide the students into groups of 4 or 5. Try to evenly distribute the
students into groups as to their grades in the class, for example: in a group
of 5, have an "A" student, a couple of "B" students, a
"C" student and perhaps a "D" student.
7. Each group will grade 5 essays using the Practice Essay
Rubric.
